The Debtors are an indie rock band based out of Lafayette, LA. I bet you're now thinking to yourself, "How did a band from Louisiana even hear about a kid studying at JMU in Virginia? And then hire him to make a poster?" Well, it's kind of a fun story. In one of my classes, we had a project to make a spec poster for a fictional event (although it could be inspired by real people, groups, or organizations). I made my poster for The Debtors and a tour I invented for them. After completing the design, I had the idea to send it to them, not really expecting to even get a response. To my surprise, they not only responded but asked if I would be interested in designing a real poster for an upcoming show!

Being an indie band, they didn't have a ton of specific design elements they wanted included, but they frequently use envelope icons in their imagery, which I decided to reflect in the design. Next, I added the text in large, bold fonts to draw attention to the poster. I also wanted to add a grungy texture to the design to feed into the indie rock vibe that the band thrives in.
